Deborah Ann Dawson

I grew up in Southern OR where beautiful rivers, trees & wildlife abound, where seasons are are a welcome change and provide wonderful fodder for Artists. The college I attended is now the Southern Oregon University, the professors I had were great but watercolor was barely covered. So I am mostly self-taught.
Drawing is an activity that really occupies much of my time and I feel you can't progress without continuing to draw full time. There are no short cuts.
My work is collected by many and I am grateful that my work has meaning to a lot of people. I put in 8 years as graphic artist for Southern Oregon ESD then went on to be an Artist in Resident for Southern Oregon Art Council and taught drawing and watercolors to children Kindergarten thru High School for three years.
In 2001 I was diagnosed with Fibermyalgia, I could no-longer work the schools. I had to learn how to manage my pain and low energy. It was actually a time for me to rethink who I am and what I wanted to do with my art. After moving to The Illinois Valley in Josephine county, Oregon, the desire to open my own studio and gallery became a reality. My studio is the Artful Being Studio in the little town of Cave Junction (home of the Oregon Caves) I teach art and show my work there. I appreciate my students. I love being a full time artist. Many people love my workshops which are usually only one or two days long. Physically challenged, I find ways to schedule so I don't get too worn out. If you are traveling in Southern Oregon and would like to meet in person and see my studio, you can email me at birchgirlart@yahoo.com or through my website deborahanndawson.com My studio is at 119 1/2 Redwood HWY, Cave Junction, OR My snail mail is PO BOX629, Selma, OR

How do people react to portraits of girls such as Danielle, should they not be as important as the portraits of more normal people?
I like this pretty young girl's expression and the fact that you are continuing a long tradition in painting, where many artists eschewed the 'ordinary' and... view answer
