i love to paint i love to push color around.Jason Balaam has spent his whole life painting on beautiful Vancouver Island. During his formative years he received inspiration wandering the idyllic Highlands of Victoria.
His favorite pastime in high school was art and to this day Jason still implements many of the formative skills and techniques he learned and utlized under the instruction of Harry Stanbridge. Jason is still thankful for the influence Harry Stanbridge had on his art career.
Jason resonated with the layering technique used to build up the multi-colored silkscreened images he created during his time at a local silk screen print shop and quickly adapted this technique into his paintings.
Jason first exhibited with Frances Baskerville at the "Summer 01, Thoughts and Abstractions" show held at Staub Gallery.
One of Jason’s larger pieces, “Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll – My Well Spent Youth” was created in his Fernwood Studio and presented in the final May Day Erotic Art event exhibition at Xchanges Gallery, 2004.
Jason spent an entire weekend painting a colorful mural on the side of a cube van behind the main stage during the 3-day Soundwave music festival held on Mussell Beach, Ucluelet, in 2004.
After hurting his hand in 2010 working as a stonemason, Jason made the decision to completely dedicate his life and time to painting. Now Jason spends his days at the easel working on ingenious methods to incorporate more and more color into his paintings.
Jason’s present choice of medium is interactive acrylic, a new product that dries and acts like oil giving Jason the flexibility and freedom that comes with oils.
Jason’s unique multi-dimensional, paintings has found their way into many private collections.
