Lanita Reitsma

An astrologer once told me my whole life was surrounded and involved with animals and art . The first painting I tried was on my bedroom wall when I was 2 and was of my imaginary kitty . My mom swore it was believable , but you know how moms can be . She was my first fan and supporter . Art classes in the summer and all the drawing and painting supplies I needed to explore . I drew animals , mainly horses on all my school books and even now 60 years later , family members come up with the early stuff . An awesome art teacher in high school introduced me to silver smithing which I carried over into college where I studied Art Education . I quit in my senior year to move to another University and start a family with my then husband .I never taught .
I painted with acrylics most of my adult life but in the last year have converted to oils . Most of my subjects are of the animal world . I do however enjoy working with the knife when I am compelled to do a landscape . It loosens me up and is a nice change .
Even with the art market being a bit slow I still manage to sell . I also turn my paintings into greeting cards and sell them through pet shops . Working on a lot of birds right now to supply local bird stores . .
What has been a bonus is being semi retired from my dog grooming business because it gives me a lot more time to practice .
