I can't change the fact that my paintings don't sell. But the time will come when people will recognize that they are worth more than the value of the paints used in the picture.”
Vincent Van Gogh

Art Review by Paola Trevisan

"An intense rhytmic force seems to guide her art; the colours, natural gestures and harmonious composition reveal a concrete rhythm that flows on the canvas. The musicality that emanates, together with the personal creativity and imagination, guides the artist's hand.

A passionate artist whose work comes alive with creative freedom, Maria Aratún produces paintings of strong chromatic impact and fluid gestures, vibrant explosions of colour on canvas. The quick, wide strokes and intense warm colours are all tangible expressions of the pulses that live in the artist's soul. Aratún is inspirerd by listening to musical melodies and from existential reflections and recollections that emerge from within. The inspiration results in an original abstract pictorial language of deep chromatic and emotional intensity.

Aratún's canvases reveal their own force through painterly expression ; the bright colours, the various forms, textures and the density of the medium, pour positive magnetic energy onto canvas. We sense a skilled mastery of technique, a capable hand that knows precisely the density of paint and force of her palette knife on the canvas. The colourful forms create free, lively and fresh compositions in which colours and pictorial mark dialogue to evoke a unity of emotions and memories.

Another feature of Aratún's work that engages the viewer is the deep, vibrating charge that transcends the canvas' physical limits, encompassing not only the artist's internal dimensions but also that of the viewer. Spectators are invited to immerse themselves, to abandon themselves to their own thoughts and feelings. Thus Aratùn's paintings become true hymns to the love of life within the artist herself, and reaching us through an intense and enthralling positivity, reflecting back into the viewer's soul, capturing this "joie de vivre"."
