Thank you so much. The day before I took this picture a couple were getting married right there. It was so foggy they couldn't even see the ocean. For music, a man was playing his bagpipe. It was very winsome.

Thank you. It almost seems like they are standing guard. I didn't realize it was so striking until I printed out the picture. Blessings.

You have a wonderful ability to create the abstract - I envy you the freedom that gives. God-given talent comes at any age; four years ago, in my mid-50's, I started painting and it filled a void caused by a disability. God is good. Be blessed.

Love the atmosphere in this one. I sort of want to take a deep breath of fresh sea air when I look at it. Wonderful!

This is lovely. Reminds me of the Cote d'Azur. Judging from the light and shadows I imagine this is nearing the evening. I can just smell the air and feel the tempreture and humidity in the air changing. Makes it real personal to me.

I am so glad that you like this picture. I love the California coast and yes, the smell of the air and the temperature are part of what makes it so special. The pictures of your daughters are beautiful. I hope you will share some of your other art work with us. Be blessed.

I so appreciate your lovely comment. Are you working on a new painting at the moment? I either do a lot of painting or nothing. I find that strange, but sometimes I just don't want to paint. Look forward to your next piece, Mike

Yes, I am working on a painting - actually, a couple of them, but am a little self-conscience about posting them. I'm working on my courage, so they should be up in a day or two. Thanks for asking. This site really has encouraged me to paint every day. I just have to make sure I choose the right subjects. Do you ever have trouble with that? I would like to think eventually,it will get easier. Have a great day!

What a nice thing to say! I am so glad you like my work and feel that there is more to it than paint and canvas. I looked at your work and wow, you have so much fun and color in your pictures. We are very different in our styles, but we have both been blessed. I still have a long way to go and need a lot of practice, but you keep visiting and I know I will get better!! Blessings to you.

Hi C.J....Welcome to PIL.It is a pleasure to have you in our circle of brilliant artists, I am constantly astounded by the
quality & the God-given talent of our members.& you are no exception, your "Two trees" is beautifully,& I can tell, lovingly painted. It would be, indeed, a great memory of your stay there on your birthday.
The Lord has given everyone on earth, their own special gift & I would imagine Him standing there with His finger on His cheek, thinking...."Now, let's see, I think I will give
these people here, the gift of ART." & you are one of those people. Glorify Him in your wonderful painting.
10*s for your "Two trees" hun. God bless, my friend.

My dear Tony, you have no idea the encouragement you have given me. I never drew a thing (that you could recognize) until after a surgery that left me pretty much disabled. Then one day, four years ago, I started painting free-hand. It is still very time consuming for me, but God has been awesome in directing me. Maybe I was just too busy before to see His direction. Now my days are filled with music and painting and am happier than I have ever been. Thank you so much for your kind words and I know I will be a better artist because of you and the other artists on PIL who are so full of love and encouragement. Blessings for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Tony. Thank you!

Lovely composition with great depth and a real sense of vision and radiance.

Thank you for your comments. I am very new to the art world having never even explored its possibilities until 4 years ago as a result of being disabled. To date, this is my favorite piece and I am drawn to it again and again. I have a long way to go before my work always looks professional, but it is a wonderful trip and I am blessed to find others along the path that encourage me. Your comments are most welcome and I thank you for taking the time to respond in such a meaningful way. Blessings for today.

When you have a few hours free, just enjoy yourself and try an abstract. You never know what might happen. It is creative and fun. Cheers from Mike

I will try but at this moment I can't even imagine what it would look like. . . I better get my childhood imagination geared back up. :) Thanks for the encouragement. Blessings.

This is good. Great tonal value and like the feeling as though you see the trees from an upward almost flying position. Add maybe a little bit of contrast in your point of attention - it just add that extra little oomph. Good work.
5 months
I am a very new painter - could you be more explicit about putting in a bit of contrast? I'm not sure what you mean. Sorry. Thanks for your help. Blessings, CJ
5 months
Sorry, refrase I meant a little bit more of contrast. Contrast is the difference between light and dark. In a good painting there is a greater span of variations of light till dark values and greater contrast between the lightest part in comparison to the dark parts. Usually with new artists, you will see that there work tends to be the same tonal value with almost no contrast. Hope that explains my point a little bit better. Kind Regards, Liesel
5 months
Thank you, Liesel, I appreciate your input. What I think you are saying is that down on the grass there isn't any light to contrast to the dark green. Am I right? Or is it someplace else on the picture? I'm sorry, I just want to get it right and I like that you are helping me. cj.
5 months
Yes, that is about it, but also be careful not to change all the grass lighter but just part of it - otherwise you are back to square one in the sense that you only have two variations of green - light green and dark green and nothing in between. Hope that explains my thoughts better. Kind Regards, Liesel

Artist Statement
for C. J. Rueb
C. J. RuebI have only been drawing and painting for about 4 years. I have taken a couple of classes, but have so much yet to learn. The acrylics and pastels are very forgiving and that is why I use them almost exclusively.

I live in the Northern California city of Redding with my husband. I have 2 adopted children who both live in San Diego and one step-son who is married with 2 little boys. I love being grandma and the boys love doing arts & crafts with me.

I have been very blessed to be able to have this means of expression come to me at this point in my life. The Lord has been very good to me and I feel so happy that I am able to share my work with others. I love seeing all of the art pieces here on PIL - they are very inspiring. Thank you for your comments, criticisms and prayers - Heaven knows I need them all to improve day by day.
