Samadhi by Ralph Taylor

Samadhi

Concentration; the practice of centering the mind in a single sensation or preoccupation. I hope that this painting helps the viewer to this sense of peace and concentration. If you look very very closely you will see four small musical staves only one of which has notes on it. (Unfortunately it is very difficult to see this on the site ). The others are waiting to be filled by the music of your thoughts. There is also a texture of square symbolic of the inner being and also the world

The painting took a long time to produce as it was produced using layer upon layer of paint each one treated to stop the colour of the next layer mixiing with the under layer. There is a heavy sense of texture each with for me a personal meaning that I hope to convey to others.

Hi Ralph, and welcome in the "best forum about art perceiving and learning" (at least Peter is striving for that label and I keep telling him that we are already "there":)) However I followed your advice and I got very centered and felt great after, also the thick layers and the quality of color you have reached are fascinating to enter with my eyes....so thanks and I am curious what you might further contribute to this fantastic site!

I can assure you it is easier to see them in real life they are very small but they attempt to make a very subtle point. Trouble with such large works it is difficult to have them displayed anywhere other than on websites.

Wonderful abstract design and concept, Ralph! I love the texture and colors you used. Reminds me of the concentration I feel while painting "in the zone."
