Grand Teton Winter ~ Mountain Series by Carl Devine © Art by Devine

Grand Teton Winter ~ Mountain Series

Inspired by memories of the Grand Teton mountain range. I did not refer to any photographs. My goal was to keep it simple to convey the mood of blue ice in the moonlight.

Acrylic on Canvas: 18x24-Inches
Giclée prints may be for sale.
Original paintings "NFS"
Thank you for all the support I have received here on PIL. This is a wonderful place to display our art and get constructive feedback from our peers. Best wishes, Carl

You conveyed the Blue over the Ice well, Carl! The Mountains are jagged and scintillating. The deeper blue is the descent and allows the interface of the rising Moon to shine upon the mountain Peaks and reflect their textures well. The Moon has contours that corresspond with the texture interface on the Mountain, with the incline of the lighter Blue a clear white frozen Ice is portrayed at the Summit. The shades of purple also highlight the Grand Teton Mountain range to the summit.Really expresses the Blue effect on the Ice, and it creates a Wide open Space.A feeling of Expansion is experienced, with the Grand Teton Mountain Range. Well done! 5***** Regards Angela

In my much younger days I was a technical rock climber, and the Grand Teton was one of my achievements. Yes, it looks lonely, but I found it to be serene, clean, pure, and learned to really seek out and enjoy solitude. It is only 13,770, feet high, which does not require supplemental oxygen, but great fun for a solo climb. Best wishes. CED

From a simple mind comes simple art. But it works for me and I'm delighted that you like it as well. Modern life is too full of chaos and the only thing I can control is a piece of canvas. Thank you, Isaura.
An honor to join your Impressionist group. What, if I may ask, is the difference between an Impressionist and an Expressionist? CED
1 month
Hi Carl, impressionism was an artistic movement, starting in the early nineteenth century in which artists went abroad in touch with nature in search of true light and its shades. Expressionism is a son of the Impressionist and has to do with the feeling and interpretation that the artist gives to what he sees. Paul Cézanne and Van Gogh were especially large in their interpretations expressionist

Oh, that is most enlightening. What about Modern Art, Post-Modern, Neo-Modern, and Contemporary Art? Your knowledge of Art Through the Ages is very impressive. Then we must define Classical Art, and Traditional Art. Pop Art. Hip-Hop Art. Abstract Art. Conceptual Abstract Art. Folk Art. Then we have Novice Art. Outsider Art and, finally we have Digital Art, and Air-Brush Art.

This is a beautiful and stunning piece of work, which exactly captures what you set out to acheive! This actually conveys more than a photograph, it's so like actually standing in the foreground it's unreal.

Yes, it is cold. When I lived and worked on the Teton National Forest, Black Rock Ranger Station (seriously) the summer high was +82-F, winter cold was -36-F. That was between 1958, and 1962. Now, they have ski resorts everywhere. It has been poluted by money-grubbing developers. I will not go back. Best wishes, Carl

beautiful painting but i had trouble getting past the title; Teton means erect nipple in french. perhaps you should change the name to 'mooning the mountain'? seriously i'm only teasing because of your comment on my 'woman with balls'. this is a very icy looking painting made quite effective by the simplicity. i really love the texture.

Yes, dear, I know what Teton means in French. Mooning the mountain is a great title! We have a happy, healthy group exchanging quips here on PIL. Hi Carl, Chuffed that you like my seascape. It's odd that my seascapes are determined to have a fantasy quality. Really, that is not what I intended when I started to practise them; but I think I should go with this natural instinct? I always intend for my flowers to become more fantastical - these stay more naturalistic. It is rather weirdo. What do you think. Your pal, Mike
1 month
Thank you, Mike:
What do I think? In my humble opinion, you should not change a thing. We have cameras that can record every intimate detail of anything on earth, and even give as view of space. Your personal style is very pleasing to me. I enjoy studying your wonderful flowers, then you post a fantastic seascape, which makes me feel warm and fuzzy all over. This is your life, and your style, and I think you have it perfected. Also, your training in music gives you the rhythm that I see in your paintings. I know it's hard, but try to accept the fact that you are an exceptional artist. Period. Warm wishes, Carl

Hi Carl, for all your work this is what I like best, the colors of the snow with gradients of blue and violet, and the projection of light from the moon reflecting in the snow are very well made, in all the work for me, there is only one problem ... a large black signature.
I had a school-master in the University of Fine Arts, who said that the real signature, is on the left in the brush work. If you look at the work your eyes are immediately called to the signature that should always be the most invisible as possible, mainly placed in a corner.
I hope you will forgive my constructive criticism, because the work is well done
Regards, Luis
1 month
Thank you, Luis:
Yes, the large black signature must go. So, the signature should be on the left in the brush work. That is valuable information, which I shall incorporate in my work. When the signature becomes the focal point, something is wrong. You constructive feedback is much appreciated. CED

for Carl Devine © Art by Devine
Carl Devine © Art by DevineMy career as an "Artist" began after I retired, and continues every day. As a photographer for many years, I know how to capture the real world around me with a camera.

After spending time at the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, I decided to take up painting in order to capture my inner world without using digital techniques. My technique is Autodidactic.

My style seems to be "contemporary conceptual abstract surrealist," but not by design ~ bred in the bone. I am neither a traditional, nor a classical painter. Flaws in perspective, color, and technique are there by Devine design. Constructive feedback is always welcome. "A painting a day, keeps the doctor away."

Edvard Munch has been screaming at me for years. Vincent Van Gogh is the link between creativity and madness, which does not mean that all creative persons are mad, nor does it imply that all mad people are creative.

My paintings have become my children, so I cannot let them go. I have all my original art in my gallery. Giclée prints may be for sale upon request. Prints of my work are on stretched canvas only: no paper, and no glass.

All ® Art by Devine ® displayed on PIL is hand painted on canvas by Carl Devine. I use only paint brush and palette knife. No "air brush," and no "photoshop." Our work speaks for itself, and for us. E-mail: artbydevine@gmail.com
