free as a bird (a simple lennon) by shannon

free as a bird (a simple lennon)

This is one of my favorites. It was done in about two hours but I was going for "simple but seriously impactual".
30"x 30" acrylic on masonite.

The blue was a last minute thing...I had tried other colors and they didn't "pop" quite as well. Although, I did a quick Christmas Card with the image: some light snow falling in the moonlit background / one red lens and one green / still keeping it simple of course. It was "pretty cool for the yule"! :)

Very interesting portrait of John Lennon, during the later stage with the Beatles. I'm not sure, if he really was "free as a bird".

Beautiful painting of a very talented, sensitive man. One of my favorites of John's is "Beautiful Boy". I thought of it when my grandson was born. This is just lovely.

i am overwhelmed and in awe of the sheer beauty of this piece. John Lennon is a favored subject of mine and if I were a competitive man, after viewing your Lennon I would walk until I found the nearest hole, lie in it and beg passersby to throw dirt on me because my life would be over. This is the most stunning image of any personality in memory.

Artist Statement
for shannon
shannonSHANNON: "Creativity is a gift that should be shared with the world."

Her story: Shannon failed art in high school because she refused to paste macaroni on poster board and sprinkle it with glitter. She, instead, moved to the back of the class room where she studied the Old Masters ... and her favorite artist, Norman Rockwell. Her style is her own but she credits it to her love of black and white glamor photos of the old movie stars and her studies of "the greats". She explained,"After my high school teacher dismissed me as a failure I knew I was in trouble. I had scholarships lined up and schools anticipated my arrival. I can not understand why my teacher couldn't embrace her student's talent. Jealousy is a dangerous coat of armor."

Shannon looks at her talent as a wonderful "gift". She doesn't understand where it comes from and doesn't try anymore. She just ... paints.

Shannon gets her inspiration from everything and her drive to be a better artist/person from her FRIENDS and FANS.
