A Mothers love...

Acrylic on stretched canvas panel.. 18" x 18"

Commissioned by a friend who requested a painting to remind the family of their late mother.. Having lost all photo's in a fire There was nothing to work with..So.. The Mum's name was Pearl Rose... So I came up with this idea..
Gosh hope the family likes this...

I Love It to death!!! Hi Kerry, this is FABULOUS!!! Yes, I wish I had painted this one ... There is a wonderful fun plus Vampire book series called 'Love it to (Whatever). ) So I have just given Dean James, the author, a new title. And, your painting would be the perfect cover. It is the funniest series: almost the style of Agatha Christie - set in England in the cheery and cosy+ Cottswalds with a newly arrived resident gay vampire detective. He takes a special pill so does not have to bite people, and can stay up during the day. It is totally crazy and so much fun. I wish BBC would film. 5 *****+ and Hug from Mike The odd things paintings make you think about!

Hot.. well that's a given, and muggy which is unusual. We had a big storm this afternoon dumped a couple of mLs.. And went as quick as it arrived.. Great represantation of the mother's love. The colours are deep and balmy. The texture is almost velvet . I also find very powerful the addition of the pearl ( I think is that) representing the high value of this love. I really love it. All the power, the emotion, the importance of this love in our lives is wonderfully given through your stunning rose and the whole composition. Congratulations.

Oh wow Doris, I am so humbled.. In this one I took so many things into account. First my friendship with the family, going back 50 years.. The Mum's name gave me the idea. A rose also signifies so much , beauty, peace, fragility of life, etc. The pearl natures gift from the ocean. Of such beauty and solid as a families love. The colour of the rose, because Pearl was a stunning blonde in her youth. And loved all things apricot..and pink. The velvet, for class. And tied it all in because it will be hung in a house over 100 yrs old. So I wanted it to have an antique look to it too. You have given me the warmest smile Doris. xxxxxx

the choice of the colour is great, apricot on the dark velvet make a good match and let the rose really come out:) yuo could get a even greater effect when "smoothing the leaves of the rose with a very soft brush and very Love it:) soft strokes almost not touching it.love it:)

Yep Mary the pearl was the tricky bit.. I wondered at a string of pearls or a few scattered, But you know me.. less is more. And I think the single pearl creates more impact. And of course, those who don't know the story will wonder at the mystery, of one pearl in a flower painting.. You already know I'm a touch different LOL xxxx

Wow! Kerry this is beautiful in all ways! The idea with the mothers name is perfect! I love your drapes (done so well) the pearl is everything not to overlook the wonderful rose. Fantastic colouring on the rose, very ellegant and heartfelt work. Congratulations on a beautiful and succesful piece. And I have a kit ready if there was another bushfire.. And that is photos on disc. and a few other momento's. The things which you miss after the fires have cooled.. xxx

Hi Kerry, I'm so pleased you like the seascape. I have been covered in blue paint the past two days - I really am a messy painter. I thought I would glaze the whole painting with Indian Yellow to tone - but now I may leave it. It has grown on me. What do you think of this. An Australian artist is publicising workshops for a seascape painting that I know was painted by Joyce Ortner. The painting is available from Joyce as a teaching dvd - I would much rather learn how to paint it from Joyce. Don't you think it would be ethical to say WHO actually painted the painting in the advertisement? So uncreative in my opinion. Big Hug, Mike

On the glazeing thing... I love it with the blues like this.. it has a richness that just shouldn't be toned down...
The pleagerism of the artwork be cause that is what it is.. if the copying is not stated or explained. I totally agree... I read somewhere, a quote In womens weekly.. from Po (masterchef fame) "If I copy the rules exactly, then it is not my talent on display, it is someone else's" And that stuck in my head.. because it's true. And if they are going to do the thing you mentioned... then for god's sake, they should say where they got it from... It's wrong. I think if someone copies a photo something should be changed a little, because a photo is really a captured moment that really belongs to no one person. Maybe the logistics of the photo belong to the photographer but not the image.. But a painting is an image created by an individual and should not be claimed or exploited by any other person unless they state that it is a copy, study, etc.. Just my thoughts on it.. I think your comment of so uncreative, is so kind.. I would have said, so deceptive!!!

I need to clarify a point.. I think if the photograph is of a person. The image belongs to that person.. If it is of a scene in nature.. It belongs to no man. But anything created with the hands eg. painting is the property of the creator of that work.. :))) I for one will not be buying the dvd's I would however buy Joyce's ...:)))

Hi Kerry, Yes, I was so surprised that this relatively well known artist and teacher would not give credit to the original artist. Personally, I would be embarrassed and just waiting for someone to say: "Oh, but I thought it was YOUR painting ..." Anyway, guess people think differently. Hug Mike ps ...And you also wonder what other painting are really "original" ...?

I know Iv'e wondered about a couple iv'e seen myself!! It would be so embarrassing. And it is not that there isn't enough subject matter out there to do their own originals hey... the possibilities are endless.. But maybe some people don't care, or think every one else is to stupid to find out!!! Another thing along the lines of this subject, I borrowed some books from the library on Digital painting.. Photoshoping!! And I was amazed at what could be done.. And how someone could do a painting using a computer.. Opened my eyes.. I personally think it is cheating... unless placed in a category meant for it. And clearly marked as digital art.. There is a place for it.. but not as "fine art". Again my personal opinion. :))

Roses are symbolic of Love, and this painting certainly expressed' A Mother's Love'. Beautiful peach colour and lovely form, soft and full of repose! Also the Pearl is so symbolic, as Mother of Pearl. Strange but beautiful in it's connotations. Excellent. Hi Kerry, You know I painted these roses on a rather inferior canvas - I really did not know until I started painting and the canvas started grabbing all the paint. I decided I would finish anyway and then re-do later. But the odd canvas gave a more severe effect and I decided it was a bit different and stayed with it. I am self taught, whether or not an artist.. is open to interpretation. I pick up the brush or pencil and whatever media I'm in the mood for, and happily follow along on the journey it and my soul takes me. And often I stand back and wonder where the image I produced, could have come from. I'm in love with life, family and where I'm at. I never take life too seriously, but, can be serious sometimes, though no one I know takes me seriously lol. For me, life, laughter, books, knowledge, colour, music and art are like a drug, I am hopelessly addicted and I want there to be no cure.
