Welcome to a carnaval 100 x100 on canvas by alison rowen

Welcome to a carnaval 100 x100 on canvas

Well it is finished!...aside from the adhesive to go off where I have fixed my swarovski crystals..I am done! Ok so only subtle changes, but they are there. I have connected the right hand side to the left side..but not heavily...I just needed a connection for balance. Also I have got rid of the silvery light in the middle of the red as I thought it took the eye straight there, and I did not want this, I have carefully reblended the bottom half, to give more depth, and I am now on with the next:)...well I hope you like it.xx
P>S I used hundreds of chipped zircona cystals, dozenns of aqua marine hand cut swaroski crystals, and a deep black mineral sand that glistens...there is a center piece which is a beautiful vintage aboro brooch...all adds to the sparkle factor...pity I couldn't catch all the rays of light that projects from theses jewels in situ.

hi dear Alison, what are "we guys" thinking about your new one: hm, at least I think, that you started beautifully with color and form...and now it needs the transforming of the two opposite parts into a fitting unit.....because I have tendencies to reduce everythiing to the essence, I would say: don't add much more form....it's almost enough! happy finishing:)

Hi Chris...thank you for your very helpful comments...I must have been working on the connection line when you commented:) I have uploaded the latest work...and apart from some slight adjustment to some of the blending I think I am just about there, I do not want to overwork it too much, as I find I am always doing this...never happy! Thank you again dear friend.xx

- No, you're so close, the two controversies meet, and there is air and space around them, and the possibility that all can happen. Be careful you do not shut them up and prevent their ability to act freely. Maybe the red center added a slightly Highlights - but with a cautious paw (of a cat) - is that possible mice ! Colors so wonderful ! tmj xxx
7 months
...I hear you cat...I have little paws, so I hope it helps me...I have uploaded a more near finished pic, and I only have a little of the blending to adjust...fingers crossed.xx

Alison, Hello there...!!! It seems as if your life is allowing time to recede into that solitary artist we all love so much.
So to the new work… I can see it as an unfinished work and that your minds eye perceived something more – yet you stopped and I do not think it was for a critique. As someone who is out there I must say it is finished as it shows the underpinnings of a great work. The foundations are sound and the style unique. The feeling of as you say unfinished is somber and the colors are divine along with the contrast against the jewels. The sparkle is painterly in it self and balances against the rest of the composition.

Now could this be a new you emerging and a variation of style and statement? I am not sure but I like it and after all what do I know about true art? It is stunning so far and as you stand before it again with brush in hand it will transform into an even greater work of art.

...you can say that again Steve, I have been inside my studio for weeks, only venturing out for food, refreshment, and essentials.(you know what I mean!)To be honest Steve there isn't an awful lot more to do...just the importance of connecting the two sides for balance, and some colour blending retouching in the bottom half...also when the adhesive goes off the clarity will be so much better. God..working with crystal is a nightmare, and I thought gilding was hard..but I do love to use different materials, and I have 3 other canvas's almost completed too, I will show them at a later date though.:)Anyway I have just replaced with a more updated nearly, almost finished pic.xx Thank you so much Steve for your support & inspiring comments, they mean so much to me.xx

Oh Alison, WOW WOW WOW I adore this one. all that bling. and the red and the whole thing is mind blowingly beautiful. Hey if you don't sell this for a bucketful I will be amazed.. What a lot of work. I can see your heart and soul went into this piece. I bet you are proud as punch of the finished article, and so pleased you are at the end... That relief and excitement that you can start a new journey in to your canvas.. Alison this is one of the best abstracts I have seen for a long time, I wish I could see it in real life, I bet it just sparkles and the colours would be just so much richer... Ahhh I'll just have to imagine.. Well stars?? not enough in the cosmos for this.. so I will have to go with the 5***** Kerry xx
6 months
Hi Kerry, had to wait to reply to you until I had more time, due to your fantastic comments. When I read these they made my day..you are right my heart & soul did go into this, as with all my artwork, but the hours spent placing the crystals..pheeww!:)I have started my next canvas already, and this should be finished by next week, although you can never tell, sometimes I start off doing one thing, and then go off on a completely different course..:) I wish you could see it in real life too Kerry, the rays of light that project from the crystals are quite magical. I thank you enormously for your fab comments, I really do appreciate them. big hugs xxooxx

Dear Alison:
What a magnificent expression of the red spectrum! After reading your comments on how you produced the "sparkle" I am impressed. Gustav Klimt used gold leaf to add sophistication to his paintings. Zirconium crystals is a nice touch. I wonder if anyone has used natural, gem quality diamonds? CED

What a great idea to add cristals ! I do love this painting very much also for the contrast red/blue that I myself have always wished to achieve but haven't been able yet to find that special moment in time where it will just be red blue and some more.

Hi Irene...I also struggled with colour mix, as big areas do need a dramatic contrast, and red & blue really fight, as they are total opposites, however I added a warmer bottom right, and it seemed to work...hope you achieve your goal honey, I am sure you will.xx

My interpretation on first sight is of a spider (distinctive eyes there)trying to wrap itself around a fire sun (a sun reflecting a fire). In the blue there is a lot of movement, this was seen as strong winds, flames, smoke and ash.
I do see darkness in it, maybe because of the sun on the day my brother-in-law and 12 year old nephew died in a bushfire in The Grampians National Park.
Therefore I viewed it from my heart, and it is certainly a spectacular painting of which you should be proud. The colorings, the balance, and the movement is beautifully executed.

Ahhhhhhh, breaths in all the love and smell of turps...life is good!... And this piece...large and in charge...(smile) I think this is one of those paintings like many on this site...that come alive in person... Art in person is the shit. Sorry about my french... But hells bells this is great... I love the depths the blues create coupled with that swirling inpending mass...like the universe is ripping open...beautiful...but the end as we know it...kinda scarey..yeah the big guy said scarey... I still get scarey I just dont look scared but inside?... I just wet myself...hahahaha!.... Okay onto the next.

...Indeedy...Oh I like a painting that smacks you right in the face...:)) Yes it definitely looks alive in the flesh so to speak, I work with many layers of paint, and blend furiously to get the desired effect...this is a celebration of 'being' from the beginning to the end...enjoy, and grab it with open arms...as we are gone in the blink of an eye...love life...thank you again Albertus.xx

I love the movement in this painting and the mood in the others. The colours are vibrant, full of life and it shows a lot of imagination.

Artist Statement
for alison rowen
alison rowenI have changed my profile picture to the incredible pastel Paul Horton did of me...I absolutely love it to bits, and want to say thank you again dear Paul....also so very generous of him to offer the original to me as a gift...WOW! I cannot wait for it to arrive...'happy days'xx

I am a solatary artist, I work from my small studio at home. I find my inspiration from all around me, and how I am feeling at the time. I went to art college for 3years & from there experimented with different medias, until I found what I enjoyed the most. I love working with colour on a huge scale & my largest commission to date is 200cm x 300cm. I believe everyone can create art, but not everyone wants to! I have probably painted around 300 canvas's over the last 6years & I hope to paint many more. This site is wonderful for all of us arty folk, it is so reassuring & exciting to see other works & when I am not in my studio, I enjoy browsing & commenting on all the pics that catch my eye. Thank you to all who hve commented & voted & long may this site stay buzzing!
