Vassi Coutsoumbes - 30cm x 30cm acrylic watercolor and pencil on cartridge drawing paper. Vassi is the wonderful girl who encouraged me to have my first exhibition and has kept encouraging me ever since.
Oh Paula...those eyes...you got it girl!! Love it...great work indeed and I hope one day I get to see one of your exhibitions...Adelaide isnt that far is it! xxx
Hey Jules, well I'm in the throes of having two books published this year,so I'm hoping you can make it over for the launch of one or both of them. Will let you know when. xxx
Just waiting on proof from printers for first one, a small booklet about how I cope with the effects of cancer and radiation treatment. It will be distributed through various help groups associated with the Cancer Council and a percentage of profits is going to the Cancer Council, and the second one "My Poetry & Art" is still going through the long slow process of editing at the publishers. I hope to have a launch in the next few months. Will send you invite. XXX
...Knew this was yours Paula even before I saw the name! Well give your friend a big hug from me, she has encouraged a brilliant artist, and this portrait is superb..hugs xx
Vassi has strong sense of conviction expressed in her face - committed person. LOve the eyes! and the way you use this special colour palette of yours Paula. Im sure she loves this portrait with great pride - Well Done! ;-) 5*******
THanks Prof. No I don't do commissions, or at least people don't ask me. I usually paint from inspiration. What I paint today I can't paint tomorrow. I've always been that way. Inspiration is an illusive thing. This last spate of portraits has surprised me more than anyone. They've come from me experimenting with watercolor. You should see some of my failures ha ha ha :)))) xxxx
i don't believe you have failures...oh,bring back the days when i was doing pencil sketches, portraits,on the beach ,for people and selling little blocks of wood, with small oil, landscapes, that i prepared a home...it was great, scraping a living and getting robbed and arrested, now and then...only joking, but it was an experience...oh yes,i did get an exhibition in madrid,95,...met gallery owners....
I smile because I think about all of those little masterpieces you painted and sold on the beach back then, a little piece of you spread about so many different homes becoming a part of someone else's life. That's how I think of art, it's a legacy we leave for others to enjoy, a little piece of ourselves, our souls left on earth still living, long after we have departed or the shells of our bodies have departed. The thought of that makes me happy. Does it you? xxx
This is a very captivating portrait,Paula, I do like it. As well; and your mixed technic also remacable - how do you mean - acrylic watercolor? - I've never tried acryl, only classical watercolor :)). Nice one really! 5 points from me!
Paula~ Beautiful! I really am inspired by the colors your using and the highlights you did around her eyes... You have inspired me to try and go in a different direction with my medium. Thank you for inspiring me with your style and talent that shines! You did a fantastic job all around :)
