Just Needed a Break by Steven A Bove

Just Needed a Break

Details Details Details...

Just needed to find something to paint away from the graphite, pastel and the business side of things for a while and this is what I came up with.

Enjoy....

I guess it is kind of a watermark for me the low res... As rhese are being prepared for the new web site, brochure etc. they will get the full treatment. But just a collage of some of the work I remembered and saved as I see we both do. Thanks for the slow but great response.

It is so good also because it looks so simple. I like the special shadow colors , they are no shadow colors but you
used them like that with a very special touch. Living art.
great work. Best regards , Robert

Like your self I think this is a very recognizable style for me. Now to just learn how to paint like you...

This is very well done work, Steven. I love your research about reality and abstract form. I think that you oppose in two parts of a picture a reality and possible strict geometrical forms. Very interesting and very effective.
1 month
Katerina, this is a bit more realistic than the pure geometry from the Chaos but I am learning each time. Thank you...

Steven, this is an powerful painting. The composition, colours, drawing, movement and
balance;work well . The guy who,standing
in the window looking out ,into the world ,his mind
is taking so many things he desperately trying
to sort it out. The world below him is still going
on.It as to say no matter what we go through life
still go on.

Just so so spot on Steve...well you sure put my miserable attempt to shame...lol It works on two levels for me, one because you have kept a simple..yet brilliant 'A bove' style & two, because I actually thought the painting was his actual profile pic (yes it's him!), unfortunately Agron has left the building...so to speak, he may be back though, especially if he sees this. Love & hugs to you.xx

Roxanne, every form is made up of shapes and to find them and get them to work together then add value or color or style will produce an image. Thank you....

This is a beautiful and deserved tribute Steven! Recognizable at first sight and with your special and original style, this is one of the best portraits of a PIL artist.
I love when you mix your two styles togheter (realism and abstract)...when you find the right way to do that.
Beautiful!
PS I did not understand if the title refers to you or to Agron. :))
1 month
OK no fair as a student of the arts I can only try to paint each time. You are toooo kind Roberto but I do think it looks like him.

The title is a reference to me but the gesture of Agron was chosen to bridge the feeling also.

Thank you Roberto....

HaHa, all though I would love to see my portrait painted by you, your choice in painting Agron was a great one, I have always admired his work. I mised all that has went on with his page lately, oh well. Just glad to see him active on the site as he would have been missed. I really do love this portrait by you!

With the business side of thing getting more demanding, it may be a while before I can return to this style. I hope in time I can once again regain my status and recognition so I can do these more often. Seems that the traditional style of portraiture is more to my clients liking these days and they pay well….

I see Agron has returned so I will put you on the list for one - how about with a great head dress - no not that kind of dress Steve – LOL….
1 month
I love this Steven, excellent!! I was reading you wanted to get away from graphite, I find your painting to have a much freer feel to it. I think changing mediums sometimes allows us to find expression that isn't always obivious. I really really like this,Lin
1 month
LinMorin, if I may call you that... The escape was and is always just a few steps away for I keep a canvas at the ready for the abstract work on the easel. Yes the freer more non controlled elements in these abstract works is relaxing when I am not looking for shapes in the Chaos. The graphite portraiture is demanding and requires my attention to detail so much that I escape now and then to stay fresh. I thank you for the great insight of your comment and the next time I am drawing the hair of a pet I will surly think of you.

In the short period I have had the privilege to be a member of this site, I am proud to say that I have met some very great artists. I now sit back and listen to my vinyl records of Montoya and Julian Bream with wine in hand and look at some very great art. I now am considered a friend of so many and forgive me - artists like Antonino Ercolino.

I know Antonino that this is a style I created and toil over and struggle with. When I get frustrated and just attack the canvas as I did here I get such a great rush yet I cannot seem to sell these just yet for I must once again establish myself as an artist. So I turned to the more traditional style and I am now full time in the studio. I will not surrender to it but I must continue for I love my family, my life and my art.

Thank you Antonino for sharing and for the inspiration we all draw from YOUR work.

Artist Statement
for Steven A Bove
Steven A BoveChaos - Where Brilliant Dreams are Born.

Before the beginning of great brilliance, there must be Chaos.

Before a brilliant person begins something great, they must look foolish to the crowd.

Where form follows function the fine art of creating becomes a sojourn thru unseen images built upon traditional foundations and strict mathematical structure. My approach is not with the intension to evoke specific statements but to follow the ebb and flow of a truly provocative process.

My work frequently focuses on the complex dynamics that form and mold us. I am interested in examining those emotions. As a visual artist, I have chosen to probe these uniquely personal universal dynamic experiences. The pieces portray the repetitive patterns of dynamic interactive behavior. Images withdrawn from within the Chaos are drawn from experiences, icons and recent personal experiences and an awareness of life.

My work brings together the dynamics of our contemporary experience. Shapes gather together and hold the potential for confrontation and emotion. The abstract nature of the subject matter is at times refuted by the gestures or the colors within, while sharing the same physical space; the shapes appear lost in their own separate worlds.

I have felt an urgent need to understand, recognize and learn from artists who came before me. It is in this enigma that I continue my search.
