Thanks D for your kind feedback. Marij is actually pretty gaga about her hair. She never ware's it the way it is in the picture. Always in a pigtail or with a hairband. The reason being that her hair is alway about the place. Loose and not to be tamed. That is why i suspect she likes the picture mostly because her hair is in one place for once!

Like it but the flesh tones fall a little short of colour brightness and sharpness. The flesh colours looks like fading.

Thanks for the feedback Joemar. The skinones lack a bit of brightness i guess becauseof the photograph i took. Ypu can see it also in the lightreflexion on the background. I didn't manage to take a better one. The skintones are comparable to the other pictures I posted. Then also Marij is really rather pale. :-)

I got all that from just looking at her face which you have put so much expression and character into. Her glasses look real and so does she . Thank so much, it is wonderful to capture a person's personality like that. I was constantly seeing the parents of Marij in front of me, whom i only know of pictures from her kitchenwall. It was like they were also parttaking in putting Marij's beauty and proudness of being a Nicolaije into it. Marij's had to fend for herself, took over the household at 12 years, so she has had to tuffen up if you will. She is the person wearing the most extravagent costumes self made at Carnaval, but will be the pearl necklaced lady at exhibitions. I hope something of all that comes through. Anyway, i find it much easier to put personality into a portrait if i really think i know and love or admire a person. And i am so glad you like the result!

Weer een geweldig portrait Saskia. Echt schitterend realistisch weergegeven. Ook de manier waarop je de bril in het gezicht hebt verwerkt is prachtig. ( vaak en moeilijk onderdeel )

Dank je wel Johan!!! Zeer gewaardeerd. Het viel eigenlijk wel mee de bril. Tegen het einde met wil (en een tikkeltje grijs en napels geel erdoor gemengd en daar de vorm mee zetten; niet overal) De verschillende schaduwen van de bril waren lastiger. Daar heb ik een beetje mee vals gespeeld anders waren de strepen in het gezicht te irritant.

Thanks T, I am really glad you like it so much. This technique is a deadlayer technique that takes lots of time to do, but can be achieved by all artists. The endresult is always really realistic. I love to do it. But it is also very timeconsuming. So if you have time, you can do it now, anyone can really with just a little talent for drawing.

Artist Statement
for Saskia Cox-Steenbergh

Netherlands

In this space I was asked to put my aritststatement. I really didn't have "an artiststatement" so I had to think about it a little. This is what I came up with:

About art I can say that it uplifts spirits and touches souls. It can make us see. It can puzzle, baffle, stupify, amaze, petrify, deeply move or console, it can instill a quiet moment of deep pondering, it can be decorative, opinionated and it can be fun or bore. These are just "a few" things art can do, which i really like about art.

The best thing about art for me is that it gives an unboardered freedom of expression which can be experienced as intensely liberating.
