Artist Statement
for
John Mullins
I have long been a devoted follower of all forms of visual art and the creative minds that produce images for our pleasure/reaction.
Before I retired from a career in training and education in social work, art was my avocation. Now I am able to lose myself in creating art as much as I care, between travel excursions of course.
I am a self-taught artist and I have experimented with various mediums over the decades but I inevitably return to the intrigue of graphite and charcoal portraits. The process of capturing light and shadow in order to create a special mood or emotion in the intricate planes of the face is sometimes frustrating, but it is always a facinating experience. Getting lost in the creation of light and shadows that result in a face is quite simply addicting.
I have become a legitimate artist through constant feedback from followers of my works but I would like to become a master artist by continuing to solicit constructive criticism and to learn from the true masters.
Prints of my art as seen on this site are for sale by contacting me at this site. I am also available to do commission work. I have garnered a following of satisfied and loyal clients over the years. Prices are reasonable and based on size and/or number of faces.I approach every commission with the goal of capturing the essence of energy and emotion through expressive realism.
Please view my work at your leisure and please share your unabashed honest feedback so that I might continue to enhance my skills and techiques.
Thank you in advance for your comments.I hope your viewing experience is enjoyable.

I zoomed right in on this. My Franky! (Franklin).
I am very familiar with the Cairn Terrier. I had a Wheaton colored Cairn for 'almost' 15 years. Got the little varmint when he was 6 weeks old, born January 1, 1995. Sadly, VERY sadly, he passed away November 30th, 2009, 1 month short of his 15th birthday. I could never imaging his death because of his full engagement with life. You can't believe how much I miss him...with every step I take, every morning I wake. My constant shadow and companion. Never thought he was a little guy; his might and heart were huge! Loyal and Fearless. He ended up with oral Melanoma, a very aggressive cancer, and died in my care and at my side a few months after diagnosis. Watch your little girls oral cavity closely, including the roof of her mouth. Just a tip. He continued to follow me up until a few days before his death...loyal and selfless to the very end., a few short months ago. Best companion I ever had. I'll send you a picture if you give me an email address. Thanks for posting 'Chloe.'
He was all the qualities you mentioned...My Boy!
