View from Ubir Rock Kakadu by Janice Mills

View from Ubir Rock Kakadu

A work colleague, Stephanie Cox supplied the original photo from which this pastel has been derived. Many distracting items (mostly in the form of bushes and trees) have been deleted so that to piece is less cluttered.
The original photograph is beautiful in it's own right, so I didn't want to try to totally reproduce it. The aim was to capture the theme and colours from the photo, try to keep the landscape as recognisable, but not to create a simple copy of it.

Thank you Geoffrey, I sometimes wonder about what I take out or leave in. I guess it comes down to a value judgement, as to what I think will work without compromising the subject. Your comment is most appreciated.
