willow by Svetoch

willow

watercolor on paper, 1993

While painting this work I was inspired by R.Frost poetry, which I discovered then for the first time, and notably it was "Atmosphere"; I remember myself looking in my window to this willow-tree every day, and somehow these two images combined. That atmosphere, it was such a great time then...

l really like the limited palette, umber earth colours here. The texture is almost like tapestry!

And you live in St Petersburg! You must have seen the amazing works, of my seascape master hero, Ivan Aivazovsky?

Artist Statement
for Svetoch
SvetochI was inspired by these famous lines from Steve Jobs' speech recently: "Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become." I think there could not be a better artist statement for all creative people. Best of luck to all of us on this untrodden Path!

What do you think of art classes using other peoples work for teaching, is it a good idea to see how other artist form paintings or should they try to be...
I can almost 'smell' this painting Graham. It is very very good. I do not like the idea of using other peoples work for teaching or for anything else really. ... view answer
