Untitled

Painted originally as a studio nude, reworked about five years ago and discarded. I dont know if it really worked. Based on Victorian fantasy.

Wow, this is gorgous. I love the nude and I love the landscape even more. The colors are so rich, the reflection in the water is just beautiful. Did you use a reference for the landscape?
2 months
Thanks Celeste, I think people have picked up on the fact that it's two paintings. I was painting a lot of landscapes at the time and this was just from imagination. The figure was a nude study roughtly based on a Victorian print. I kind of joined them. I'm in the process of painting a lot of new work so I thought I'd test the water with this one. I've had interesting comments, mainly positive. Kind wishes, Chris

The background is fantastic. The proportions of the woman are fantastic. The only thing is that the lady looks cartoonish where the back looks realistic.
2 months
Thanks Matha, you're quite right about the difference between the figure and the back ground. I joined a nude study and an imaginary landscape together. I was looking for a little surreal effect and the pale colour on the woman seemed the best way to achieve this. I love honest comments like this,it give TRUE feedback. Thanks again Marta, Kind wishes, Chris

Hello Chris, I like this one of yours. There is a lovely feeling of delicacy and the light through the trees adds beautifully to the serenity of scene. The only slightly negative comment I might make is perhaps she needs a bit more shadow under the knee resting on the rock to give her some weight on it. But that's being a bit "nicky picky" but I am an artist also so we are very hard on ourselves aren't we all, and that is only my opinion.
Anyway, happy painting
Frances

Hi Frances, thank you very much for your kind comments and you are completely right about the missing shadow, I will fix it immediately!!!:-)But you're
right, we are hard on ourselves and I dont mind 'nick picking' Kind wishes, Chris

Hi Chris Snr.
You have painted a classic with the same classic rendition of the renaissance. Unfortunately you have not given this a title, a 'Victorian Fantasy' would have been very appropriate as your lady gazes upon the river for a mirror. A 5 Star!

Chris , finally yet another attempt to compliment you on a beautifully soft and feminine painting reminds me of a water nymph, very murky, mystical with an ethereal feel also has a Pre_Raphaelite quality to it,I really love it ! A 5***** piece. On a personal note, I would say ou have definately stepped over your shadow! love your work!

Good painting. I was taught that the best way to paint people is to first paint them nude and add the clothes last. That way, the clothes flow with the body position. This is a lovely painting. Thanks for your nice comments on my art.

Fantasy is what came straight to mind when I saw this lovely work. It has heaps of depth and the lighting on the girl is beautiful, she "shines" in contrast to the cool foliage and water around her. She looks serene and "other worldly" just like out of an ancient myth.

Hello Chris, Wonderful painting & it certainly captures a "Victorian" quality, but I think even in its own terms this painting works rather well & I don't think the background landscape & main figure conflict at all in style. 5*

I love the metallic hints in the background and she is very beautiful - erotic......?
1 month
Thanks so much sarah, apart from my last painting(love in the rocks) I never try to paint erotic pieces. But I think maybe you're right with this. It was a 'put together' painting based loosely on a Victorian style pose and an invented background. I have been very suprised with the kind comments and votes people have given me, and it's been so helpful with my 'quest' to move my art in different directions. Thanks again, Chris

Artist Statement
for chris redwood snr
chris redwood snrI've had very little training as an artist but get my influences from the many different countrys I've visited during my career as a professional musician, only having the time to start painting ten years ago. Now in my retirement year I intend to give more time to art, explore a little deeper, try to put on the canvas what I'm feeling and not taking the 'safe' road. Easy to say....harder to do I think! In music you have to 'step over your shadow' often in order to create and develop new ideas. I hope to be able to apply the same principals to my art. Wish me luck:-)
