This Too Shall Pass by GHPF

This Too Shall Pass

Colored pencil on paper, 11x14in.

I’m visiting my sister this week and left my art equipment at home…suffering from major art withdrawal symptoms, I rushed out to a local craft store and bought really inexpensive colored pencils and a sketch pad…here is the result…I destroyed a few pencils in the process in order to get the bright colors that I wanted here…oh well…

Years ago, whenever I was sad, or depressed, or felt overwhelmed, my Dad would look straight into my eyes and say these wonderful words…and, of course, he was right!!!

This Too Shall Pass

Sometimes we’re surrounded by sorrow and pain,
Encircling our lives, with no means of escape…
Whenever this happens, remember my friends,
These words of wisdom: This too shall pass…

Insurmountable obstacles…or at least so they seem…
The world presses down with unbearable weight…
As difficult as that is, it won’t last forever.
So never forget: This too shall pass…

Emotions that are almost impossible to bear…
Sadness and anger….disappointment and fear…
Nothing goes right, but yet, please be patient,
And be rest assured that this too shall pass…

So in the darkest of days, or in the worst of times,
Things will get better, just know that they will…
The truth will resound in these words of wisdom…
Always remember: This too shall pass…

It was so touching to read your father's quote. He was obviously a very good soul and took life as it came...a very wise attitude to have,I have to admit. My father used to say..'dont expect Kate and u won't be disappointed'.He used to see my sadness whenever I was let down and he would shake his head and say...'remember what I told u Kate' and I would look at him and nod back and say 'I know dad..but it's hard sometimes'.I like the fact that u have painted circles..it shows the flow of life and its experiences..all one big circle. What goes around comes around, some say.I just see our lives as a series of circles.Sadness comes and then leaves, as does happiness and wealth and health etc...but they soon return to revisit us again and again..and so life goes on.What is good is that your circles are blue for love,red/orange for passion, green for harmony etc.You have also got black circles, but I notice they are smaller which I would interpret as low/sad/bad days but they are not big issues..all part and parcel of everyday life..ying yang, giving us balance. So a good painting George.Colours are uplifting too.Keep smiling and be happy.K8

Hello GHPF, Lovely colours swirls echoing 'This too shall pass',just at the right time indeed, nice to see this picture, and your father's words are so full of Wisdom. I was just listening to someone today, who was so hurt and upset, on a really low ebb, and I tried to make them see that 'these things come to pass',yes, colours remind us of all the Healing Powers there are inside us and about us to heal our sorrows, and forgiveness is the way. Doodles dissolve, and help us to find creation in the magnificent field of colour. Hope you enjoy your week, and yes,'This too shall pass'. Am about to immerse myself in yellows today, painting sandunes, but first need to Meditate on Yellow. Colours help us to enormously to make space from the darker elements, that sometimes try to delude our vision. I am putting some dark images into The Coal Bunker, and reflecting on golden sand, and shall remember those words today,'This too shall Pass'! Have a lovely day! 5***** Regards Angela Susan

I've struggled many times in my life, and once took a Dale Carnegie course...they taught "This too shall pass" and I had that saying hung on my refrigerator door for years. Hey George, you ever get sick of making great art?...yeah I dont think you do...I have to be honest here...I'm not really sure why I like this piece of yours...or most of them to be extra honest...I just do...for me to take a stab at it...and mind you it is kinda a guess...I think....I like how they make me feel...Not just because you give great responses to my work either... (smile) But because I see a little more in your work then just visually simulating colors or design...I wouldnt put it up there with a Luther Van Dros song or a Marvin Gaye Song....with the lights dimmed some chilled white wine and a candle lighted perfectly prepared romantic dinner with me lady....But damnit it's close!!!!...Hahahahhaha!!...No seriously...I love what your work exudes...wonderful Job my colorful friend!...Bravo!

Hi George, I'm back! It's vegetable harvest time here so I only get a few minutes per week to visit. Lots of work in the field and in the kitchen these days getting ready for winter.

I was looking at your circles again and it reminds me of those pictures that if you look at them long enough you begin to see a realistic 3 dimensional image. This one really vibrates and the longer you look at it, the more dimensional and colorful it becomes. The circles float in mid air after a while!

Forgive my ignorance but this is how I see this in relation to the poetry, the large circles are the big bad problems, the smaller ones the 'passing' of the problems until eventually the bright yellow sunshine makes it way through, and the greens I see as a rebirth or new growth. 'Sadness, anger, disappointment and fear - this too shall pass'. Lovely art, very meaningful poetry. Love it.

There is something there in every piece you make that makes me feel happy and joyful and brings a big smile on my face...and so does this one too. Not to mention how much I like your poem and the encouraging message in it. I use to say: "Don't fear the darkness, because when it gets more visible it's only a sign of the light growing stronger." Much love, light, joy and harmony to you sent by me...Namasté my friend George. <3 <3 <3

This Too Is Unpassable.

Sometimes we’re surrounded by wonderful pieces of a sensitive artistic soul,
Encircling us all, with no means of escape…
Whenever this happens, remember my friends,
These words of wisdom: We won't let him pass us by...

His work is exquisite and bring joy to us all,
Whenever this happens, remember George,
These words of wisdom: We will not let you pass by...

WOW George, what an inspiring work. Your circles are really beautiful, just bursting with promise! You forgetting your art materials brought back a childhood memory... I so loved drawing that I would pick up stones from the side of the road and spend hours drawing on the tarmac...yes, we lived in a very quiet street LOL. The drawings would fade after a few days, but the pleasure that I got from drawing would last for ages. I am so glad that this is the first picture I chose to look at today as I have been away from the site for a while. Your dad was indeed very wise and your words have lifted me during a particularly dark period in my life. I am printing out your lovely picture and beautiful words just so I don't forget that THIS TOO SHALL PASS!!! Many many many stars for your lovely picture and beautiful words.

Now, what can I say about this, except that you are the wizard of color! Your work is so colorful and bright, full of joy and vibrance, enthusiasm and creativity, spontaneity and passion for your art! As for the poem, it speaks for itself: precious words of wisdom and consolation that we all need from time to time. For this colorful delight and positive outlook, 5* are not enough!

Aloha my dear Keoki. I love this piece as it, along with the poem, says so much about who we are as artists. We create because we must; it's in our nature. Amazingly, I have discovered that my best work often comes as a result of pain, sadness, or other challenges and then polished with the joy that came after the storm. Mahalo for sharing.
