a portrait from the 50's by Beryl Stewart

a portrait from the 50's

pastel on paper found in the bottom of a drawer folded up, creases still visible, surely this is last old forgotten piece.

thank you Karen, the interesting thing about stumbling across old works and i mean decades old, is that nothing has changed much, i seem to have developed a technique a long time ago that never leaves me..

Wonderful pastel painting, Beryl! The image of this portrait is so similar to the ones you did recently. It is so amazing and from the 50's my, how you have captured the essence! It is amazing what we can find from some efforts earlier on, am discovering some myself, and may be resurrecting some of the images for other work.I printed out an old painting yesterday, and am changing it into a cross stitch picture for my grandaughter,to learn embroidery.A kind of tapestry, from a picture we created together a few years ago. I tried it out yesterday, pasted the print ont cardboard, then did some cross stitch in wool over the water, swan, and some pink areas. The colours behing seem to remain the same, but the cross stitching gives the painting more texture. It is now a mixed media effort, lol! It is amazing what some older paintings can be changed and we can work on them again. That is what is great about Art, it helps us to recreate and discover more! Nice to start some other work, all the best, 5***** Angela Susan

for Beryl Stewart
Beryl StewartI am self taught have been painting since childhood. I started with watercolour as a child, then as an adult learned how to work in soft pastel, and finally tried my hand at acrylics.
