"Deux cafés, s'il vous plait!" -... by Peter Farrow

"Deux cafés, s'il vous plait!" - Bourdeilles,...

When visiting the Dordogne in June, 2006, my wife and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary at Le Donjon Restaurant, Bourdeilles, which is opposite the Chateau.

Next morning, I returned to take some reference photographs to paint the scene as a memento of our visit. As I was about to take my photographs, two ladies sat down to take their morning coffee.

Pen, Ink & Watercolour. Painted in 2006 on NOT Paper 300gsm - painting size: 10" x 8"

Ah, how I wish I was there now, sipping a cafe creme! Wonderful Peter, you have captured the ambience and light of a fine French summer's day. The excellent architectural detail - those flung open shutters and windows, that fine stately door (maybe it received coaches once, compared to the ever-open cafe doorway. I want to go there!

love this...its so charming and so elegant. the ladies having their tea is just a perfect touch. if I am very quiet I can almost hear faint violin music and the low musical sound of ladies chatting quietly...

Hi Andrew, My sincere thanks for your most encouraging words, which are very much appreciated particularly as I am still trying to return to my painting.

As I have found it difficult to return to my normal painting having had some procedural memory loss since my stroke, I am planning to try to learn to use the Derwent Inktense Pencils together with their Waterbrushes hoping this might prove a good alternative for me as I am used to using Derwent Aquatone Pencils.

I have just received these from the SAA and hope now to start practising! (I have not managed to complete a painting to upload to PIL for over 4 years now!)

Best regards, Peter
