Artist Statement

SueSummersHi, my only problem with this site is that I spend more time on it than I do painting !!But it's wonderful to see so much talent exhibited here, a great way of being stimulated to try something different.
My love of art has been with me all my life. I attended an art school in Stourbridge, England for two years, but with marriage, a move to New Zealand & raising three sons, it left me little time for painting.
I got back into art in 1992. My love of 'characters',music, dance & animals are my main themes, I seem to paint whatever excites me visually. I enjoy working in watercolour, acrylic & pastel.
I like to create a mood or feeling to my work, using loose brushwork & soft edges to emphasize mood & emotion. I try to create a sense of...
I struggle with backgrounds - getting it to relate to the subject etc.. do you have any suggestions to make it easier?
