Reflections - Monet's Gardens,... by Peter Farrow

Reflections - Monet's Gardens, Giverny, France

Following our visit to Monet's Gardens at Giverny in 2005, I painted this impression composed from my reference photographs. (With my apologies to M.Monet.)

The scene is the shady side of the Japanese bridge where there are fewer water-lillies yet the position gave a full reflection of the bridge against a sunlit background.

My plan to complete a larger painting of my sketch is yet to be fulfilled. However, now that I am painting in acrylics in addition to watercolour, I have two options to paint the scene.

Watercolour Impression - Derwent Aquatone Watersoluble Pencils (Sticks) and Brush on Smooth Cartridge Paper 8" x 6"

Beautifull done Peter, I remember you saying you loved visiting France and how much you loved painting there. Memory's are important to us they are seed of future inspirations. I hope your health is improving and can't wait for your next artwork.

That's right. This is the Japanese bridge, yes as I remember it when I was there some years ago. I also painted this bridge, but I'm not sure if I have a photo of it. Should have. At the time I had not a digital camera. Well my Friend you chose such a nice subject for your painting and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest. Wish you all the best health. My big hug, Isaura

What a delightful sketch, Peter! And interesting that you use the watercolour sticks - I haven't tried them yet. Nor have I been to Monet's garden but must try when I go to France in September - this time I want to try and paint and relax instead of work, which is usually what I do when i go overseas. Like you I've just begun acrylic - look forward to your eventual painting. Can we think of a bridge as a sort of 'furniture'?, then please add this one to my group

My sincere thanks, Sue, for your encouraging support, which I very much appreciate.

I am pleased you are trying acrylics. I enjoyed them very much after watercolours. Now busy learning pastel pencils having forgotten so much of my former painting knowledge.

I do hope you are able to visit Monet's Gardens. My wife and I were delighted to have seen them. It is definitely worthwhile if you can visit sometime.

Thank you for your 'fav' and your suggestion regarding 'furniture'.
Warmest wishes, Peter

Peter,
In this Garden you viewed and rendered this lovely bridge. The subject was appreciated by Monet, your one of the many who produced there renditions, of this lovely garden scene. Just rendering this I believe you learned a lot of truths about paintings.
