Natraj by caroline jariwala

Natraj

Natraj acrylic on canvas 2002
This painting works on two spiritual levels. In the middle of the painting Shiva is depicted as Natraj, the Lord of the dance. This is also the term used to describe Christ. The woman on the right is devotionally scooping up water in order to incant a prayer to Shiva. On the opposite side a woman meditates. Both women are dressed in traditional Gujarati print saris (bandani). On another level the painting describes the story of two disciples of Christ, Mary and Martha. Martha worships through work while Mary is the contemplator and the reflector.

Dear Caroline!Thank you very much this painting. My indian Master is Paramhans Swami Maheswarananda gurudeva is incarnation of Shiva. My yoganame is Niranjan Puri. One of extension of the name is guard of Shiva.Your paintings are similar to pictures of Amrita Sher Gil. She was half hungarian, half indian painter. She has fantastic compositions and colors. She was mother of the modern expressive indian painting. God bless You! Yours faithfully: Ákos Szeri!

for caroline jariwala
caroline jariwalaMy paintings are inspired by my Gujarati Indian heritage. I investigate themes of ritual, custom and culture celebrated in the female form. These large canvases rich in colour and texture evoke intricate layers of meaning and symbolism. My current work portrays a personal spiritual interpretation of early Christian Art with Hindu symbolism.
