Beautiful painting Brenda. I love the mix of colours. I used to study Van Gogh at high school and found mimicking his style really helped free up my own style. But he's the only artist I've copied. It's good to have a go at the classics from time to time. This one inspires me!

So appreciate reading your comments, Elisabeth! I work really hard at the face/body (skin tone really is a challenge) I keep practicing... over and over... sky, water and fabric also a challenge. This turned out better than I thought it would! LOL

I love Bouguereau. I made several miniature paintings after his originals myself. I like your painting a lot. Beautiful colours. Also your other "old masters" are very powerful.

for Brenda
BrendaMy name is Brenda and I live in Southern Saskatchewan, Canada. I have been painting since 2010, and I am self taught. In the past year I have attended a few art workshops, but I always revert back to the way I taught myself.. I also started in oil and now use acrylic (tried watercolor, but it is to0 fluid for me to control)

My favorite subjects are animals, birds and flowers... but I am trying to go outside my comfort zone by painting portraits. Skintone is so hard to blend and apply! I have so much to learn.. Landscapes are another subject outside my comfort zone.

I don't do any sketching, but go right to the canvas and start with a corner of the canvas usually upper left and work my way down, blocking in colors, then go back...
When one looks at my paintings, one can see I am a detail freak. While I left out many rocks and rearranged them some, I still put a lot in the painting. I...
Paul, nothing wrong with detail. My only word to you is study Composition. In western art, the eye enters lower left and transverses to upper right. The viewer... view answer
