Thank you Paula. I discover recently a technique with a toothbrush in order to do the sand on the beach. I'll try this at next related project. :-)

Thanx for the toothbrush hint Kostas. That sounds like it would work really well. XXX

Love your simple interpretation of a fishing-boat. We spent 13 years having sailing holidays in the Ionian Sea during the summer, and I love Greece so much. Your painting captures the simplicity of the Island life-style. Jeannette.

Beautiful color in this painting. Also regarding your question, the only book I know of on the "Reilly Technique" is by Jack Faragasso called "Drawing the Figure" or something like that. You can purchase it directly from Faragasso on line or from Amazon.com for about $35 US in paperback. Reilly taught most of the top US illustrators from about 1935 to 1968 at the Art Student's League in NYC, US. Because Reilly died suddenly, the four books he was in the process of writing were never finished.

Hello fellow Greek artist! thanks for all your comments on my work. I have looked through your portfolio and for a self taught artist you are progressing very well. A few suggestions..you should try oils, as they are easier for beginners than acrylics..as they are more adaptable to blending and making changes. For outdoor painting watercolors are great but you have to use high quality colors and heavy wc paper..I buy it in sheets 60x70cm. 70x90cm. you can cut to any size 300 lbs. and up are good weights for paper. Taped with Tesa masking tape to a drawing board these papers don't need stretching or sizing..Cotman papers are pretty good..we can't get the best materials here in Gr. Windsor Newton Professional colors are the best..if you can find them (I have mine sent from Eng.) but Cotman student grade Winsor Newton are OK. Difference is prof. colors have less gum arabic and more pigment than cotman so you get stronger more brilliant light fast colors. TUBE colors are a must!!! not pans..difficult to keep making colors with pans..well, hope this will inspire you and help you..happy painting..Janet
6 months
Oh Dear Janet! Wow! That's a help. Thanks a lot!
I agree with you, about oils; I didn’t tried them until this summer because of the smell from turpentine. I’m used to painting at my balcony and during winter is difficult for me to do it with oils. So since last October where I started use paints, I started with acrylics. In any case, I agree with you, oils are best. I did some study works this summer. If you have time you can check them here on PIL (Old pot
)
Thank you for the advices about watercolors also. I'm using the watercolors of my daughter...(lol). After your comment, I found the Windsor Newton Professional series at ‘’Plaisio’’ stores and I'm going to try them.

Thank you very much for the support and courage.

Just noticed this lovely Greek painting. Brings back lots of memories when we had a yacht in the Ionian - spent most summer holidays sailing round Levkas, Cephalonia, Ithaca and all those other little islands. This is a quaint painting - so Greek and lots of feeling. Love the unspoilt greek islands.

Artist Statement
for Kostas Koutsoukanidis
Kostas KoutsoukanidisI'm new self taught artist.
