The Power of Love by Rosa Antonia

The Power of Love

I just saw this painting again and I found it quite beautiful. It is a strange feeling to see your painting after a long time has passed. An octopus has three hearts. They could become a symbol of love. This is my largest painting ever. Acrylic painting 4'x5'.

Question

I let the subconscious guide what appeared on this painting. I see the power of love saving her. What do you see?

To answer your question, yes I did once. But I think it was more about memories than about subconsciousness. And it was sold almost immediatelly. Your octopus grabbing the young lady has somewhat ancestral man behaviour. Love this dance of the waves, the colours you used, the movement. Suddenly I thought whether this is a tragedy or a symbolic way of playing with men and women's instincts. Wish you all the best and many more intriguing paintings. Kindly, Isaura

Interesting that your painting sold immediately. Someone decided to buy this before it was done. I think it has a lot of meanings. For me it seemed to be about my conflicting feeling about relationships with men.

Thank you so much Charlotte. Yes there is a lot of symbolism in this painting and it all came without conscious thought. I am only sorry that it takes me so long to complete a painting. If I were trying to make a living I would have to get $$$$'s LOL! So good to have you back. I've always enjoyed your voice on this site.

Hi Rosa - this is a cool composition - I really like it. Interesting analogy to love - being a middle aged male I probably see the tentacles rather than the heart(s) Warm regards Peter

The tentacles are an extension of the heart : )

great fantasy here Rosa! am not sure what feeling I get looking at it, the girl gives me happiness but the whole set up leaves me with a sad taste...nice symbolic work!

Hi Christina, The overall theme wasn't happy for me. Forces trying to pull he under, but also forces holding her up. Thank you for commenting and sharing your feelings.

Hello Rosa, Your painting is very striking of colours and the girl trying to survived a stormy existence, and yes, the power of love lays very deep in our inner soul, it is in touch with the Whole and it is Universal, I see our world drifting away,
very sadly from that pure energetic power that we call Love.

Have a wonderful day my dear friend,
Rita.

Dear Rita,
I have added three hearts to his torso to represent the 3 hearts of the octopus. I did not know they had several hearts until I finished the painting. Then my friend saw the painting and said he felt that it represented him trying to keep his wife from slipping into alzheimers. Suddenly the painting became more meaningful to me. Love is always here no matter what a few humans will do.

I think the male octopus figure is a little threatening. Maybe its his intense stare.

He's very intense. That's because he's worried about her. Still it is uncomfortable I agree. Thanks for commenting.

I see the vibrancy in the orange and siennas, with burnt umber and its interesting that the Octopus has 'three hearts' it all symbolizes the Power of Love and the journey too as love transcends everything!

The symbolic dots are meaningful as they portray the existence of the harmony in the depths of the ocean where these Octopus hide and the subconscious memory is submerged to envelop and protect her as she is being saved from the torrent of being possessed by the sway of the tide.

May the Power of Love protect her from any predators in the sea, so that she is brought into the one and only feeling of existence!

These contrasting colours show a dominant colour transition between the under current of the ocean and the shale and octopus embedded in the sand where the girl is being thrust forward into the translucent clear waters, rising up out of the subconscious depths, awakening to her own existence, surfacing too into reality.

The tentacles are curled but only the tips so it appears she is transcending the grip of the submerged activity in the ocean, skirmishing the depths of what appears to be a transformational experience...

Dear Angela Susan, If there were prizes on paintings i love you would get one for beautiful prose and most insightful interpretation. You have captured my feelings about this painting so well. And there is a story behind it as it was purchased by a friend whose wife is losing her memory. He sees himself holding her up through love. You see her rising and transcending and that is how I see her as well. It is a younger me, and it is the ongoing struggle to rise above raging emotions. Yes, lots going on. Thank you my friend!

Dear Rosa, One of my friends is experiencing exactly the same and it is really a most sensitive painting indeed, as the loss of memory can be devastating for the loved ones, and sometimes it is being misdiagnosed too, because depression can be like a cloak too, covering up the faculty of memory and cause people to go to sleep, however the power of love can pull them out of the darkness and lift them into the light!

Hi Susie, It is actually pretty deep. She is drowning in a sea of emotions and the octopus which has three hearts is pulling her out. There are sea monsters waiting for her but her true love wins out! Thank you for commenting : )

Rosa AntoniaI love color and light. It makes my heart stop when I'm out in nature and the light is hitting a color in a certain way. I look at my paintings and everything is very clearly defined. It is the way I see the world. I often wonder if others see colors in the same way. By looking at the paintings on this site I can tell that some do.

I very much admire some of the realism I see in other's art. Something inside me prevents me from taking my art to that level. I shall call it a drive to get beyond the appearances of this world. Other's might call it lack of discipline, LOL!

Lately I have been cultivating my subconscious as i always wondered where Chagall, Miro and others got those amazing images. To my delight I have been rewarded with...
