Autumn Into Winter...Night by Flint

Autumn Into Winter...Night

Watercolor on paper: Here is my attempt to create an evening landscape at the end of the year--when Autumn turns to Winter. Am representing a cold, dark, bleak, almost frightening forest because this is my least favorite time of year. In the Midwest, where I live, December through March are difficult months. The snow, wind chills, ice, and long, black nights take their toll on us. However, I wanted to represent the scene from my balcony at every time of year in spite of this.
Lovely colours Kat, love the texture, great title, beautiful work 5*****

This is an interesting abstract... and I can feel the cold and the dark chilly days.. I grew up in that weather on the east coast.. and had to move away... Now I live in hot sunny days... and it gets so hot.. so we stay inside just like you do with your winters..... You did a great job capturing what you felt.. :)

Artist Statement
for Flint
FlintAm satisfying the need to express myself. Instead of representing concrete, realistic images, my approach is to depict emotion. Hopefully, each image will stir firm emotion from the viewer.
I hope that my work stimulates critical thinking too and encourages the viewer to make positive contributions to society.
My favorite artist is Vincent Van Gogh. “The Starry Night”, “The Red Vineyard at Arles”, “Langlois Drawbridge at Arles”and “Olive Trees with Yellow Sky and Sun” are some of my most favorite images. Van Gogh's use of bright colors, thick, layered paint, and bold strokes at a time when contemporaries were more cautious in mode encourages me to continue expressing my own personal style with similar enthusiasm--but hopefully with greater financial success.
Although the subject of my current paintings is primarily nature: landscape and figurative animals, I also use the human figure as subject-- began working with it in college.
I am from Chicago--love that city; love horror movies, animals--especially cats; and Thai food at Penny's Noodles in Lincoln Park.
My current medium is watercolor on paper, but I also work in oil, charcoal, pen, and pencil and have done etching.
My e-mail address is: krfdp@aol.com if you want to contact me with detailed comments.
