April Love by Isaura

April Love

This is my last painting. I finished it yesterday. It's a tribute to a painter I admire so much- Arthur Hughes.
Oil on canvas, 50cmx90cm.
Lovely...could be right out of a fairy tale!

I know it is quite different from the original and the main difference is really the look on her face. I thought the amazement of the first love deserved a happier face than the one of Arthur Hughes. Many thanks, Hazel.

Love your version of the pre Raphaelite painting April love, originally by Arthur Hughes. It really is delightful. The Pre Raphaelites are among my favourite painters. Burne Jones, William Morris, John Everett Millais and Dante are among those I admire most. Brilliant artwork. Felicitations!!

I see we have the same tastes, because I do love the pre raphelites too. Thanks for the kind comment. All the best to you. Isaura

I'm glad you like my last work. This is a mixture of Ultramarine Blue, Violet and Prussian Blue. It was thew colour of this dress that drew my attention when I first saw it at Tate Britain. Your comments are so welcome. Thank you Robert, my dear friend.

Beautiful.. I really like her expression.. The only thing that was throwing me off for a bit.. was the dark tunnel.. I thought she was holding something... but other then that... great job:) I look forward to seeing more of your paintings :)

Thanks Chrisann for the comment. I should have explained the Arthur Hughes' purpose for this painting: it means the fugacity of First Loves. In the original the lady is not smiling. She seems to be very shy wuth the kiss of the gentle knight at the back, but I decided that a kiss like that should be felt like a happy moment- so the lady must be smiling. I saw this painting at Tate Britain 6 years ago and my mouth kept wide open. Therefore I've decided to have one for me. The dark tunnel is in fact the inner side of a secret garden where she stands. I hope to have answered your "throwing offs". Be sure I'll share future works with you and all these wonderful friends of PIL Now I can't live without you any more and I'm speaking the truth. XXX and Hugs Isaura

Well Allison, I just feel I was lucky to be able to reflect some of the message Arthur Hughes wanted to convey. You know, it was a bit difficult for me to actually see all the painting. At first I hadn't noticed that there was her left arm and I couldn't understand where the knight's head was, but then alas, light was made in my head: I saw her hand and the position of the knight's head and then everything made sense. In my painting I tried to make that easier for you and I put a smile in her face, because I do think that when a girl is kissed (even on her hand) that would turn a person happy. Arthur Hughes'lady is afraid of something- maybe her parents wouldn't allow her to be in love... All the best to you. Isaura XXX

oh but shes adorable! I just love the expression on her face that you have captured and the blue of her dress, mmmmmm, please tell me what the exact colour of blue was that you used!

steff
8 months
OK Steff. Thank you for the comment. it wasn't only one blue, but a mixture: Blue Ultramarine, mixed with a bit of Violet Blue and also Prussian Blue for the shadows. You know, the first time I first set my eyes on the original, it was the blue dress who caught my attention and after looking very carefully I came to the conclusion that Arthur Hughes must have used these three colours to create his April Love. May be I'm wrong but it worked on my painting. If you want to see the original, just write April Love and it will appear various sites on it. The original hangs on Tate Britain in LOndon. All the best to you Isaura

Thank you for your nice comment on my last work Isaura.
You were the only one who commented on the white lines over her shoulder. Thanks. I had doubts about that. Thanks to you
no doubts any more. How is it going with your fado singer
Isaura ? Almost finished ? xxx
8 months
Good morning Robert! I really love your last work- so much work as always and so beautiful effect. As far as my fado singer is concerned,it is a diptic, Mariza, the fado singer is ready ( I finished it yesterday) but I've got to paint the other canvas ( only sky and sea) and then when this second is ready I can update it to you, because it's a whole. It's the biggest I've ever made ( The two canvas will measure 1.50mx1.00m). Let's see how much you like it. I'm going to tell you a secret: It was you all, my PIL friends that I decided to paint Portuguese motives. You vited so much in my Myth and Reality that I made up my mind and here you are- Portuguese motives. From now on you all are going to learn a bit more about our land, culture and History. I decided my country is all worth while. Have a nive day, Robert, and be sure I always tell the truth and you are really... a Friend as well as all the other nice people I found in here. Hugs Isaura

Artist Statement
for Isaura
IsauraA younger Isaura with one of her pets.
Born in Oporto in 1947, I've always been interested in painting, since my fifteens. It was a passion I never forgot. My way through painting began in 1979, but my first exhibition only happened in 1986.I leave you here some of my most emblematic works and hope you like them.
I'm retired now since 16th of March. , I taught English for 35 years to 10,11,12,13... year-old children, but it has been very difficult to teach and to paint at the same time. Now I feel free to do what I most wanted to. And to be here in this site is a great pleasure. My best regards to you all, Isaura
