Rene - I love the way this painting moves...along with the very obvious brilliance in color and reflection. The strokes at the shore line suggest movement, without the feeling of being overworked.

Thank you so much, b. I really appreciate your well-thought out comments of my painting.

I'm trying to learn acrylics as well. Am having trouble blending colors as well as you do. Any tips? Your blues in the water are gorgeous!
8 months
Thanks so much Rene. I use acrylics much like watercolor with a wet on wet technique in many layers. I'm not formally trained, so I don't know the proper terms - but I find a wet on wet technique, then blending with a clean brush while still wet, pretty effective.

Lee, thanks so very much. Your comment is funny, but makes sense - I was inspired by a surfer dude calender my son used to have. (I'm from California).

The composition and perspective is great. I like the movement of the whole scene. The pal colors you're using give a romantic touch. Very nice.

ps. ...somebody forgot the eyeglasses or what?.. :-)

Thanks for your thoughtful comments on my work, Kostas. I try for romance or passion whenever I can.

Missing eyeglasses? Maybe the swirling sands are too much - I was trying for a super-st
stylized effect, somewhat abstract.

Mike, thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my "Sparkling Sands." It was risky going for such extreme color, but that was my mood. That orange looks perfect in your "Lorikeet." Hugs!

Artist Statement
for Rene Ury
Rene UryI have always been passionate about art -- but am something of a "late bloomer." I took one drawing class and one watercolor class after my son left for college five years ago. Because school no longer appeals to me, I continue to learn from books, magazines, websites, art fairs and the examples of others (like you!). The need to create and share drives me on, and I cherish this site and all its participants.
