A lovely drawing, I like the softness and the light and shade. I study closely the works I like and try and learn something from them. This one tells me that one can still get an exquisit drawing without labouring over endless small details. Gee I hope I'm right and I haven't offended you :)

Thanks Kerry. This is a quick study from life, about an hour or so. You're absolutely right about economizing with minimal labor. I wanted to throw a couple of these quick ones out there to show people the "nuts and bolts" of the thinking and "seeing" process.
Thanks for your answer, I used to live in Florida..now Samos Island, Greece. Samos is a very green island near the Turkish coast. Life in Greece is very nice and still developing, I really enjoy living here! Janet
Do you ever teach in AZ? Or give lessons on line? I am very interested since I am teaching myself watercolor and have so many challenges and struggles... I hope to hear from you... :)Chrisann
I've taught in lots of places, but never Arizona. Usually, a cultural group or art league will fly me in for a week to a month to conduct specialty classes and intensive workshops. Unfortunately I do not do online courses through my school. I much prefer direct contact teaching. I'm a hopeless traditionalist. Arizona, though, is one of the best places in the country for representational art. There are many competent artists there who teach continuous classes and many who do workshops. A good source(other than the internet) is Southwest Art Magazine where artists regularly advertise classes and workshops.
Hope this is helpful. Best of luck, GGG.
Thank you so much! I don't like on line classes either only because I usually have more then one question and I also really need to see things done out.. and I really enjoy seeing other students doing their work.. I grow from other artists... thank you for getting back to me and if you are ever here.. please let me know! Gosh I use to live in Florida for 12 years ~I wish I would have found your classes then.. oh well... take care... :)chrisann
Hey Gregory, I tried to add a painting I did to your wildlife group and after I clicked on add to a group I wasn't offered your group. I did loose my connection just after I joined your group. Perhaps you could look into it.
Thanks, Wayne
Hi Gregory, this is what I really should do more of, Sarah is beautifully drawn, the detail is perfect for what it is ( a quick life study), I wish my life studys were as good as this ;0)
The shading really is lovely, you have captured her wonderfully, you bring such quality to the site in all you do.
Well worked, Paul.
Paul, Thanks so much for the kudos! Yeah, the figure is what I turn to when commissioned work threatens to zap the creativity right out of me. Life drawing is a return to academic basics, but provides creative and spiritual nourishment.
Oh! Another beautifull and still simple piece from you Gregory. You really helps me with your works and responce on comments made by other friends here. Thanks for sharing.
Mr. Grant this is great. You can truly see how much someone likes their subject by the way it turns out. I took my first figure class last spring, now I can't get enough. Do you have regular figure classes at your studio? Jami
Thanks Jami! I have occasional life workshops, but not regular classes. Am working on upcoming workshops for Fall/Winter/Spring to be posted on my website soon.
Kj, Thanks for your comment! I looked at your work, and was moved by your bio. My advise to you is this: Keep drawing from life whenever you can to enhance your skills and further develop your "eye". You'll improve a little with each attempt. For the creative element however, take a look inside yourself, at your own world. What is the color of emotion as you feel it? What do you feel when you observe your little girl in her moments of quiet contemplation? How can you paint the idea of joy, love, sadness, determination? How to represent in some fashion the unique way YOU see the world, YOUR world with your husband and daughter as they influence your hopes, dreams, and future? Your technical skills as an artist are OK. You can improve with practice just like the rest of us. HOWEVER, what you have to SAY as an artist transcends technical prowess. No one can teach you that. Art is about passion, not about how real, how pretty, or how marketable! What is in YOUR HEART is the ONLY THING THAT MATTERS! The ability to share this with others is what enables you to call your work ART!!!!! Paint how you feel! Show the colors inside your heart!. This is the key to your success. I wish you and your family all the best! GGG
Hi Gregory, thank you very much for taking the time to look at my work, and for giving me the advice, its great to have such insightful feedback. I really appreciate it :). Kj
Thanks for the nice words, Peggy. I looked at your work and you're doing great! You just keep drawing those grandkids and someday you'll be a master!! Been through your area a few times as my wife is from Shaw, MS, (in the delta) near Indianola & Cleveland and has family in Oxford and Memphis. Best of luck, GGG
Hi, I'm the administrator for the group Expressionismic Figure, and I'd love you to add this picture to the group. Excellent figure. Best regards from Theodore. (accepted)
