Sunday morning at Kyson Point by Iris Howard

Sunday morning at Kyson Point

Oil on board,14"x11"experimental oil painted on site and finished at home, took about 4 hours in all, had to leave after 2 hours else I'd have been sitting in the river, I should be grateful to receive your comments as this is the style I would like to develope for oils

Yes Iris, i agree with you. The choice of colors is more refined...The green/brown mix is marvellous and is what i prefere in this beautiful seascape. :)

The style is excellent. I would only have liked the bottom bart to be a little bit shorter to bring the horizon line lower.

Thank you very much Madeleine, I think perhaps you are right, I usually plan my composition carefully, but you can't do it when painting in a hurry, there are always snags, Thanks for your interest, Good Wishes Iris.

Hi Iris, this is very nice, colours clean and real! You should be very happy with it. It does loosen you up :=)

One of the problems of en Plein Air, your eye takes in more than your canvas. I always found it hard to control the composition. You can make a small view finder out of cardboard...similar to a mat board with a rectangle cutout only small...cutout 2x3 or so. Many artist use it in the field....

Thanks for your advice Chuck, I used to use a slide holder at one time, but have got to get myself sorted out again, I've become too dependant on working from photos and put in too much detail. I appreciate your interest. warm regards Iris

Thanks Michelle, I am trying now to be quick and keep it simple, I have always been too much of a perfectionist and keep on and on til in the end I ruin it.

Artist Statement
for Iris Howard
Iris HowardI am so glad to have found P.I.L and be able to communicate with so many artist friends from all over the world. I have always loved art and have learnt such a lot from all you lovely talented members. I paint just for the joy of it, though I do like to sell my paintings sometimes, if only to keep the loft clear.
