hi there this is a really good peace. the detail in this is great. My self I do portraits but normally in pencil but now I am going to have ago at painting them.
For the past 30year I have used watercolour but the last 10years
I have been using acrylics in landscape and the like.
now I have seen what you have done with them I am going to try it out. do you use wet on wet?

Thank you Martin, it's really good receiving such good feedback. I do blend the acrylic together using wet on wet but I build the painting up in layers, so before I start a new layer I dry it and then start blending wet on wet again. I like to do this as I find acrylics quite transparent and I like to get them opaque on the canvas but without using loads and loads of paint.
I just want to say again how I love your painting, the colours and the scene - you've got a great technique.

Artist Statement
for Thea Penna

United Kingdom

I was born in Harlow, Essex, and after completing my Art Foundation course at Harlow college I moved to Wakefield for three years where I studied Surface Pattern Design at Bretton Hall college of Art (part of Leeds University), which I loved. I was encouraged to use portraiture in my textile designs as I had such a passion for painting in this style.

After graduating with a First Class honours in 1997 I gained a place at The Royal College of Art, London, where I studied Printed Textiles for two years. I have worked in design studios ever since.

Along side my textiles career I have worked on a variety of commissioned portraits and other figurative works for exhibitions around London.

Acrylics on canvas have always been my preferred medium.

I just love to paint.
