Artist Statement
for Garry Reinikka
for Garry Reinikka
I am 53 and living in Brisbane Australia and enjoy a peaceful life that gives me time to paint and seek beauty for inspiration.
I have always drawn and painted since early school, as a child my imagination was sent soaring by illustrated books and I dreamed of worlds faraway. Whenever I paint it stll creates that feeling of a place more perfect than reality. I painted in watercolour and oils as a child and have now settled on oils as my favourite medium because it offers a slower pace.
Through my life I have done many things, that whilst being creative have almost stopped my desire to paint because of time an energy. Now I have the time and a little more focus on what I find inspirationable.
Today it is eyes and emotion on an interesting face, I do find youthful faces mostly male the most fascinating because the beauty of a male face is a raw natural thing.
Aged faces and the sheer sparkle of children's faces are also very inspiriational. Now for me the task of capturing the emotion and the life and the likeness of someone is my ultimate thrill. It is it all in the eyes. When I look into them I see the all the mystery and wonder of the universe.
