Painting began late in my life. Was happened upon unexpectedly, but now takes up a large slice of my time.
Portrait painting seems to give me the most pleasure, at least, when the canvas is completed. The process is rather tortuous, but rewarding.
Born a hoosier, spending many years in Honolulu, I now reside in upstate NY (to be near family) and paint best during the snow season.
I welcome any comments as I am self-taught and seeking direction, comments (please be kind), steering to competent guidance. I am in awe of the painters on "paintingsilove.com". Each day when I log in I witness such talent and beauty I want to go directly to my studio and paint and paint and paint some more.
My paintings are signed, "Irwin", after my deceased, paternal grandmother, Jane Irwin Weston.

All the best!

I like the composition of your portrait very much. It appears well-balanced. I believe the photo is off-kilter, seeing a portion of the frame on one side but not the other. Mitch looks American Indian or maybe part. Great job on this. It looks like your best work. He should take it home and hang it prominently so everyone can see what a marvelous mother-in-law he has.

great portrait Jane 5* (accepted)
There is a lot of expression and character in his face.
What i like is that you did not put his face in the center.
I like this a lot more with the beautiful colored window on the left side.
With friendly regards, Johann.
