Ultraviolence (at Walmart) by John Szabo

Ultraviolence (at Walmart)

24" x 30" oil on canvas
This painting was inspired by a comment George Carlin made on Howard Stern. It involved the tropical fish being sold right next to the handguns.
I love your drawing and i love your imagination, but i'm still loving also your colors. Well done John!

John, you are a superb technician. I have always believed that the ability to draw is basic necessity to create any kind of art.
Creativity comes after acquiring technique to visually produce fantasy.
Nagyszeruen csinalod, tehetseged hatartalan...igy tovabb, es ne felj kihasznalni az ironikus fantaziadat!

Thank you so much Csaba. I wish I knew Hungarian! Can you translate that last part?
1 month
The translation as follows - You do it wonderfully, your talent is limitless...continue on and don't be afraid to take advantage of your ironic fantasy.
Do you get the symbolism in my piece: "Hungarian Rhapsody"
Were you not borne in Hungary?
1 month
I'm sure I don't fully understand all of the symbolism, but I think it has a lot to do with the overthrow of communism only to have another corrupt government take it's place. I wasn't born in Hungary - it was my grandfather. Some village very close to Bhudapest. I would love to hear more about your very interesting escapades. Thanks again for the inspirational words of encouragement!

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words...But, that is being too smug.
Fact is there were tons of adventures and one of the most important one was to have met my present wife and her 3 wonderful children. WE created a magazine together and had a ten month run of it in Keszthely, a city on Lake Balaton. Then came elections and City Hall fell to the "Right Wing" Fascists.
They told us to take a hike with our liberal and democratic thinking. Just one of the disappointments... But I do have an e-mail address if you want to continue communicating. usfive2@yahoo.ca

The fish...Ah the fish.
You may have noticed how I love using fish in my paintings and drawings as well. Could this be a Hungarian thing...since we have tyhe Danube cutting through our ancestral homeland or is it an unfulfilled wish to be returning to the Oceans?
1 month
I definitely feel that it's a desire to return to the oceans. I think that's where the future lies. Why look to the moon and outer space when there is 3/4 of the earth still untapped. I picture giant underwater cities.

Oh my gosh! What a painting! I was so excited looking at it. It felt like the day after Thanksgiving, and the doors are just opening. I personally have never been during that day, however, I work at the largest furniture store in North America, and on the Electronic side, we get the same type of excitement and stampede as Walmart. I love it!
