Brother's Love by Marlena B. Beal

Brother's Love

In rural East Tennessee where I grew up, my three brothers and two sisters and I spent many days combing the woods and exploring every single body of water within the vicinity of Brabson's Corner where we live even if it was only 4 inches deep. We spent hours on the banks of the Holston River, Flat Creek, Cherokee and Douglas Dams. We just about learned to fish before we could do anything else--it was my father's passion other than hunting.
nice drawing Marlena

Thanks, Daniel. Most of my drawings come from my childhood memories growing up on my grandfather's farm. My heart is filled with those images and I feel blessed to be able to share them with such a large and wonderfully talented audience.

Thank you, Robert, for you continued kindness toward my work. I am still trying to improve my art without changing it as the Fall of my life approaches but all of you on this site have been more than generous with your comments. Be blessed.

Hello Marlena.

Beautiful work. Amazing what you can achieve with some lines of ink. There is such a wonderful mood of innocence and activity in this piece.

As soon as I saw this drawing I was immediately put in mind of the great E.H Shepard and taken back to the days of 'Winnie the Pooh' and 'Wind In The Willows' and for that alone you must have 5 stars. :-)

I could not help but reply to such a rich compliment. My children (and I just as much) loved Winnie the Pooh which represents such a time of innocence and total trust when my children were young. Thank you for your kind words!

WHen you can feel someone's work like this; then you have accomplished what you intended even if for only one person! Thank you!

Artist Statement
for Marlena B. Beal
Marlena B. BealI began drawing before I could even write my name. One of the things I share most is the encouragement I received from my parents as a child. My parents could not afford art paper. My mother would save paper bags from the store and cut them into sheet size so I would have paper for my drawings. Whenever we visited friends or relatives, she carried those sheets of papers with her and a pencil. When we arrived she sat me in a corner where I would remain drawing to my heart's content. Over the years, I experimented with many mediums but I found pen and ink gave me the ability to evolve in my art and the most powerful medium to express my creations. I love what you can do with millions of lines to create an image.
