Out of interest, do you fix/spray your pastels??

Hi Karen! I sometimes fix in between and keep going but always give it a good spray with fixative at the end too. I always give the pic a good bang on the back of the drawing board when I'm finished to get off any loose particles. Had so much trouble with dust falling on to mats inside glass before I started doing this. Seeya! Sally

Hi Sally! Thank you and glad you like my work! i use any soft pastel that seems to work well. Currently, I am using "ART SPECTRUM". I do fix my pastels, usually at the end but first give them a really good bang on the back to shake off loose powder. I try not to use too much fixative though as it can sometimes dull the pigment. Hope this answers your question. Cheers!

Thanks, always face the dilemna when I've finshed a pastel piece over whether to fix, find it can really dull and alter the whole colours of a piece,but dont want to loose too much pastel or smudge as well, will try a little amount as you've suggested,

Artist Statement
for Sally Ford

Australia

I have always loved to draw and paint for as long as I remember. Particularly, I have a memory of fingerpainting in kinder and how I loved to feel the paint between my fingers and of course, they were always masterpieces!
I am a nurse by profession and currently work as a school nurse Monday to Friday. I call myself a " weekend artist " at the moment but would dearly love to give up the day job and be a professional artist fulltime.
My art has taken many forms over the years, from rock painting to illustrating and signwriting. I have more time on my hands now that my kids have grown older and am so loving getting back to my art.
I am a member of The Victorian Pastel Society (Australia) and various other local groups.
I am essentially self-taught and have never really had any sort of formal training. I create art as I see it and by what inspires me.
I am lucky enough to be exhibiting at Skipton Art Gallery in Victoria and have my own gallery artspace at " The Zoo " cafe in Drysdale also in Victoria.
I regularly exhibit in regional art shows and am pleased to say, with some success.
