Suicide in "E" Minor (The song of the night)
Suicide in "E" Minor (The song of the night)
Impasto 122,5cm x 152cm
Original is not for sale
Is the fourth painting in "The L'Inconnue Project" series it tells the story from L'Inconnue's point of view and how she must have felt before she decided to kill herself. I have kept the painting as authentic as possible...her time of death was the late 1880's....thus a half built Eiffel Tower in the background....Paris preparing for the world fair :) Hope you all like this....it is painted in oil, Impasto and with a knife and the size is 5ft x 4ft. I feel this is my personal best so far and a good start to the New Year so Happy New Year 2010 and many hugs to you all love Alexandra XX
You can listen to the song on my website...The Lyrics you can find right here !!
Suicide in “E” Minor
In the early hours of the morning, mist clings to the ground like a shroud;
The people are sleeping, restlessly dreaming of stories before they are told.
And as shadows evolve from the darkness, I feel like I’m floating on air That caresses my body, sensually teasing as if the wind really did care.
Hear my footsteps resound on the cobbles; they mimic the beat of my heart.I’m alone in the city, weary, so weary, I long for the sweet lullaby, the song of the night.
But reflections delight and entice me as they dance on the water below,
It’s a whisper, a vision, a vague premonition that lures me towards the unknown.
The river; so cool and inviting, taunts me to join in its game.
Playfully guiding me, mocking and tempting me; flippantly calling my name.
In the earlier hours of the morning, as the mist clears the ground like a ghost;
Breathless and mesmerised, I sigh as I close my eyes to the strains of a sweet lullaby,The song of the night.
what a way to begin the new year......applauds loudly from this end and throws a million tiny stars your way xxxxxx

I love how you hang on those details
At first i thought it was a view of an apocalyptic war, that the Eiffel tower was destroyed by bombs...

Happy New Year Alexandra!!!
Happy new year to you & yours, I hope 2010 brings you happiness, peace, love, harmony & not forgetting 'fun'.xx
It seems to me that in the composition you have created a harmony of triangles with the strong diagonal of her right arm creating triangles which repeat in the triangle of her legs and again in the iconic tower.
You have brought her face forward through the strong tonal contrast with the shadows to the left but I am not sure about the square building above her face which interrupts the harmonies of shapes and to some extent creates a competing focal point. I think it doesn't add anything to the work.
I am interested in the limited shadows and modelling in her leg which in the photograph creates a very strong light shape which tends to draw my eye and causes it to jump forward to some extent. I would be tempted to paint into it to push it back but maybe there is some reason for it?
Overall the content and feeling are working brilliantly and its very accomplished to complete it with a pallet knife. I would love the see the textures and marks close up.

Her Leg is an interesting point and I'm not sure exactly what you mean...Her upright leg is covered by her gown and the shades are folds in her garment if that makes sense?
Up close it is extremely chunky and heavily laiden with paint.....but further away it looks brush painted and I'm quite happy with the effect..I hope you will drop by in a few weeks when I upload the new picture and we'll see what I have changed....God bless you darling for being interested I truly am blessed with good friends....Thank you darling hugs Alexandra XX
In the image on my screen the leg looks very white and plain, especially when you compare it with the muted greys and shading in the rest of the work. Consequently, for me, it stands out too much. However this could well be an artifact introduced by the photography rather than a real problem so I look forward to seeing the final image.
Thank you for your comments on my island painting, I too am honoured.....Jeremy
Dear you should write a book, without doubt, this is one of your best works. The song is deeply beautiful.
Happy New Year

stunning !!!!!! (accepted)
Wonderful detail and atmosphere of Victorian paris. The sad tale of the poor young woman, alone on the bridge in death.
Classic and exquisite.
an unusual angle too, The colours fit the mood perfectly.

I like very much; the broken Eiffel says everything! The colors , of course, are beautiful.
I am new to this site. In all my years as an artist I have never been able to capture what you have in suicide in e minor. It touches my soul and inspires me. It is absolutely brilliant! and generates feelings that I did not know I had.
Bright blessings,

Song of the Night is a winner.
Hope she doesn't roll off the balcony!
Would that be accidental death, or self-inflicted death?
Love your group, I create alot in impasto so I might add a few more if I may :) Love to you darling XX
Old thespians never die, they just fade away.
The tension is there.
